A location is a place you designate that stores inventory. Locations can be physically any size that makes sense for your operation.
Examples of locations:
- Separate rooms
- Storage Racks
- Small Item Bins
- Sectioned areas on the floor
- Coolers/Freezers
Locations can be as granular as needed. It is recommended to define them in your setup as small enough to be useful for the inventory you plan to store in them. It also may make sense to have locations different physical sizes. For example, if you sell small items, you could define each bin as its own location. The first bin could be A1, next A2, etc. However, you may also have a portion where you store larger items. In that scenario, instead of partitioning the floor to smaller locations, keep as one larger location for simplicity.
Keep in mind that you can always modify your locations as needed. So if you have one location and you ultimately decide it is too large for your use, you can always create a second location and use the Move Inventory screen to move existing items to it. You can also do the reverse and remove locations as well. Keep in mind you need to move all inventory out of the location first.
To search your locations, enter or scan the Location or Zone/Area and click Search. The list of locations specified will display.
Renaming a Location
You can rename any existing location. Click the text field for that location, enter the new location name, and click the Save Icon next to it. Keep in mind, to rename a location, it must be empty and the new name must be unique. You cannot rename a location to have the same location name as another. You must also move all inventory out of the location first.
Changing Location Zone
You can change the zone that a location is part of. This is useful for organizing your warehouse. Simply change the Zone in the dropdow for the location you wish to update.
Location Status
The current location status will be displayed. You can change the status to Good, Error, or Count in Progress. You may want to set a location to Error in case there are discrepancies in the location, damage, or similar. Click the dropdown, change the status as desired, and click the Save icon.
Deleting Locations
Click the trash can icon to delete a location. Keep in mind the location must be empty before you can delete the location.
View Inventory
Click the pallet icon to view inventory for this location. This will take you to the Inventory Display screen for this location.
Barcodes
For each location, you can generate a barcode that can be used by a scanner or a mobile device. You can print these and affix them near your locations. As you pick or move inventory from or to a location, you can use the scanner to scan the barcode associated with that location. It is recommended to scan vs key in locations, zones, SKUs, etc., as this can cut down on accidental entries. Scanning forces you and other users to be at the location with the barcode affixed to it.
To generate a barcode, click the barcode icon next to the location. A window will pop up with different size options: 2″x4″ 4″x6″, and 8 1/2″X11″. Select the size you need and click Print Barcode. A separate window will display with a PDF of the barcode you specified. You can print these directly on a standard printer but they can also print on compatible label printers as well, such as Zebra or Dymo.
Create a new Location
To create a new location, enter the new location name in the New Location field. Next, select the Zone this location should be added to. Keep in mind the new location name must be unique.
