This screen allows you to manage areas of your warehouse. Areas are used to group similar locations together.

Example of areas include:

  • Storage Racks
  • Bulk vs Small Picking
  • Sales floor vs back storage
  • Separate Buildings or Facilities

An area contains a group of locations. It is also worth noting that an area does not have to be phyiscally connected. For example, if you have storage racks placed on one side of your warehouse and the other, you can make those a part of the same area. They don’t have to physically be in the same spot. It all depends on how your operation defines it and what is best for your work. It is recommended to have some separate areas, at least for the ability to group and search for all inventory in that area. Going back to the racking example, you can search for all inventory stored on your racks if that is how they are assigned. You can then compare what is in your racks vs floor, front vs back office, or other area types, by organizing this way.

To search for an area, simply enter an area in the Zone/Area text field and click Search. You can also leave it blank to view all areas. A list of areas matching your search criteria will be displayed.

Rename Area

To rename an area, simply enter the new area name in the text field and click the Save icon. You can rename an area even if it has locations, with or without inventory, associated with it. The area you rename to must still be unique in the WMS.

Delete Area

To delete an area, click the Trash Can icon next to the area. You must disassociate all locations to this area, either by moving them to another area or by deleting the locations.

View Inventory

You can view all inventory in this area by clicking the Inventory icon. This will direct you to the Inventory Display screen and search for all inventory within that area.

Barcodes

For each area, you can generate a barcode that can be used by a scanner or a mobile device. You can print these and affix them in and around your areas. You can use the scanner to scan the barcode associated with that area when performing activities related to the area, such as when searching for all inventory within it. It is recommended to scan vs key in locations, zones, SKUs, etc., as this can cut down on accidental entries. Scanning forces you and other users to be at the location with the barcode affixed to it.

To generate a barcode, click the barcode icon next to the area. A window will pop up with different size options: 2″x4″ 4″x6″, and 8 1/2″X11″. Select the size you need and click Print Barcode. A separate window will display with a PDF of the barcode you specified. You can print these directly on a standard desktop printer but they can also print on compatible label printers, such as Zebra or Dymo.
